Another view on the Dyer Performing Arts Center Boondoggle....

From one of our Axtaxers Nov 09 2005

Funding Mechanisms ...
Hmmmmm - just a wild stab here but I'm detecting a subtle whiff of a government sanctioned expenditure.

Mayors Rich Crotty and Buddy Dyer are working together to ensure our success ...
There goes the subtle whiff ~ suddenly there's an overwhelming septic aroma emanating from Mr. Pugh (no, no, that's too easy a cheap shot) and his sycophantic, unctuous lap dogs.

... overall support for a new performing-arts center is high, with 81.6 percent of respondents indicating moderate to intense support.
What constitutes moderate and what was the line of demarcation between moderate and intense? No matter how the numbers are massaged 81.6 % is inaccurate; they are combining at least two distinct - moderate and intense -responses and counting them as one. Such methodology will invariably provide a more attractive figure because of the latitude assigned each. Lies, Damn Lies and Statistics. It's a shell game for tax dollars.

Respondents also told us that our pre-K through 12 educational programs would increase interest in attending events.
Do you think they polled Jan Hall? Just wondering.
If 81.6% are somewhere in that ethereal twilight zone of Moderately Intense (what constitutes Intensely Moderate?) then it's logical to assume that there has to be some form of concrete, discernable mathematical formula used on this preK-12 statement. Where is it? What was the basis for the statement?

... amenities such as covered parking, an on-site restaurant and an outdoor park/seating are highly desired.
For a building in use less than 300 days per year? Puh-leeeze!
Hopefully they'll think to build a Light Rail station while they're 'investing' millions -- what's a few more bucks here or there?
Doug, I could go on but the condescending tone and patronizing demeanor of Mr. Pugh's Arts Manifesto makes it obvious that the die has been cast -
Oh, by the way, see if they'll offer a Gadfly Discount on opening night ...
